Hurling Rules

Introduction

The oldest field sport in Ireland is hurling. It still has popularity, particularly in Ireland’s south.

Playground and Sports Facilities

Hurling is a sport that is played using a ball and a stick. The specific field, or pitch, is 90 yards (82 meters) wide and 150 yards (137 meters) long. The crossbar is 8 feet (2.4 meters) above the ground, while the goalposts are each 21 feet (6.4 meters) high and 21 feet apart. The sliotar resembles a field hockey ball in appearance. The hurley or camán, a wooden stick with an outwardly curving end, is used to strike it.

the game’s rules

Each team has 15 players in total. The game aims to advance the ball past the opponent’s goal with the stick. Each of the two halves between the two teams lasts 30 or 35 minutes.

Players can strike the ball, whether it is in the air or on the ground. The ball can also be picked up and carried for up to four steps before being passed using a hurley.

Similar to Gaelic football, the goalposts are higher than the crossbar. Three points are earned when the ball is hurled beneath the crossbar and into the goal—putting the ball over the crossbar results in one moment.

History

A game of hurling is claimed to have been played before a war in 1272 BCE, according to a text written about 900 years ago. The oldest field sport in Europe may be hurling, notwithstanding the likelihood that this is the case.
